what is resisted sprint training?

Resisted sprinting involves the use of equipment to provide external resistance during sprinting. The equipment commonly used includes weight sleds, parachutes, and resistance cables or bands, with weight sleds being the most popular. A study in 2006 found that: Resisted sprinting aims to enhance muscular force output during movement patterns specific to sprinting (Cronin & Hansen, 2006).

What does this mean? It means that adding resisted sprinting to your program can be a great tool to not only increase speed but also add muscle. In fact, several studies have found that sled sprints with around 10-30% of your body weight loaded on the sled is the most effective addition to your regime. Combine these loaded sprints, for 10-20yds, with unloaded sprints (taking advantage of potentiation) and watch those times drop!
